Winter holidays in Chiemgau, Bavaria
Cross-country skiing, winter hiking and snowshoeing in Inzell
Cross-country ski trails for all tastes crisscross the countryside in and around Inzell. One particular highlight is the 35 km long "Chiemgau Team Trophy Course", which leads from Inzell to Ruhpolding and Reit im Winkl. For their part, families prefer the roughly 4 km long and relatively flat Filzenloipe. And if, even after nightfall, you still haven’t quite had your fill of cross-country skiing in Inzell, you will be able to take full advantage of the Night Trail at the campground, which is lit up three evenings a week. Winter hikers discover happiness of their own and an array of idyllic spots as they explore 52 km of cleared winter hiking paths.
Skiing and sledding in Inzell
No crowded slopes, ideal for beginners and families: Skiing in Inzell is pure enjoyment and perfectly suited for mastering those very first “snowplows” and downhill runs. The Kesselalm Lift in Inzell and the Pommernlift in Adlgass are both well known for their flat, wide pistes.
You can also zoom down the snow-covered slopes of Inzell by sled. Snow tubing is offered at the Kesselalm lifts, whilst you will likewise discover a 600 m long natural sled run in Adlgass.
Ice-skating
Inzell is home to one of Europe’s most modern indoor speedskating venues, the Max Aicher Arena. The arena hosts international ice sports competitions, whilst the hockey rink is also open for public skating. Skates can be rented on site. Incidentally, once a week you can also participate in a guided tour behind the scenes of this most famous emblem of Inzell.
Summer Holidays in Inzell in Chiemgau
Hiking, walking and theme paths
Whether hiking along the Hochstaufen, conquering the Kienberg-Streicher, a leisurely walk through the valley to Frillensee or a theme hike with your children: In Inzell and the surrounding countryside, you have a wide variety of hiking opportunities. During your summer holiday in Chiemgau, boredom is guaranteed never to be an issue. Families love to explore the moorland and forest theme paths, experiencing nature with all their senses. After completing the “calorie circuit”, you will definitely have earned a delicious snack at one of the nearby country inns. Mouthwatering specialties are also served by your hosts at mountain huts throughout the region.
E-biking, mountain biking and cycling
If you love to get on a bicycle and pedal off into the distance, Inzell is definitely the right choice for you. Road cyclists, E-bikers, mountain bikers and even racers discover a wide variety of exciting tours. A ride around Frillensee, for example, or up to a mountain hut where refreshments await. The energizing Rossfeld Tour for road cyclists takes you on an expedition of more than 130 km and even crosses the border into Austria.
Watery Chiemgau
Watery refreshment is especially welcome during those warmer days of summer, irresistible for big and small alike. Whether you prefer to reinvigorate your legs at one of the two Kneipp spas, savor the tranquility of one of the mountain lakes in the area or dive headfirst (from a 3 m diving platform) into the cooling waters of a natural swimming pond in Inzell, the choice is entirely up to you. And as previously mentioned, it is barely a 25-minute drive from your holiday home in Inzell to Lake Chiemsee. On those days when the weather isn’t quite as cooperative, the indoor pool in Inzell promises a much-needed change of pace.
Our excursion tips
Mountain Forest Adventure Path
Feel, hear, smell – the Inzell Mountain Forest Adventure Path literally stimulates all the senses. All outdoors fans, big and small, are certain to marvel. Together with your family, discover the beauty of nature as you head out to 20 different interactive information stations.
You will set off from Forsthaus Adlgass, from where the symbol of a fire salamander points the way. Following the Frillensee creek, you will get to know the mountain forest better and be motivated to experience the forest with all your senses: Breathe in the fresh air, listen to the vibrations of the Humming Stone and walk along the Barefoot Path on a surface of soft moss, tree bark and pebbles. Finally, after 1 1/2 to 2 hours, you will reach the Frillensee itself, where you will be rewarded with a magical view of the Staufen massif.
Ruhpolding Amusement Park
In the mood for more action? In that case, the Ruhpolding Amusement Park will be perfect for you and your family. The oldest amusement park in Bavaria, it has been captivating children, teens and adults alike for more than 50 years. No wonder, with its fabulous combination of fairytales, playful activities and fairground-style rides.
With over 60 attractions, Ruhpolding Amusement Park definitely has a lot to offer: from a boat slide and mountain rollercoaster to a slide paradise, the wild Dragon Ride and a ropes course. In other words, fun-filled hours spent with your whole family are guaranteed.
Chiemsee
Lake Chiemsee – the “Bavarian Sea” – is also well worth a visit. The biggest lake in Bavaria is surrounded by picturesque Alpine scenery and, with its numerous lakeshore bathing areas, represents an ideal opportunity to bask in the sunshine and splash around in water. However, Chiemsee is also the perfect location for an array of aquatic sports, including sailing, surfing, stand-up paddling and kayaking.
If you take the ferry, you can also visit the islands of Chiemsee year-round. The Herreninsel, with its magnificent castle, is an absolute highlight. It was constructed under King Ludwig II and is reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles in France. The Fraueninsel, for its part, is quite idyllic. Well worth a visit here is the Benedictine convent of Frauenwörth.
Salzburger Open-Air Museum
How about a journey back into the past? At the Salzburg Open-Air Museum, you can feel history in the air. 100 original buildings spanning six centuries were re-erected here with loving attention to every small detail. Whether farming, rural businesses, artisanal crafts or industry – the Open-Air Museum reflects life in Salzburger Land as it was in former times and provides fascinating insights into days that would otherwise be long forgotten.
Surrounded by rustic farmhouses, huts, old homes and mills, there is a lot to discover. Children, in particular, love taking a ride on the museum train and make the most of the sliding and climbing opportunities awaiting them at the adventure playground. We also suggest experiencing the natural Kneipp spa and taking a walk along the Butterfly Path.

Feedback from our guests
We were a group of 9 friends. Unfortunately, the living area of the holiday home is not really designed for such a large group, and the dining table was placed inconveniently under the stairs so that only 4 people can sit there at the same time. However, the bedrooms were surprisingly large. The location is really good. Supermarkets, gas stations and countless restaurants are within walking distance, and the landscape in and around Inzell is beautiful. Overall, the supervisor left a nice impression and helped us wherever possible. Unfortunately, there were not only positive experiences. There was a small problem with the hot tube water; Unfortunately, refilling was not possible because we were informed that the caretaker was not on duty. Unfortunately, we were disappointed here because, in our opinion, it is not professional management of a holiday resort if there are no staff available during a typical holiday period. As a compromise, there was a chlorine tablet that at least made the water in the hot tub accessible again. Furthermore, the sauna temperature could not be regulated because the device for this had already lost a control switch before we arrived and was covered over. This didn't really bother us as a group because we already have experience with saunas and the high temperature didn't affect us. However, for inexperienced sauna goers, both young and old, this temperature could be very uncomfortable. The kitchen is unfortunately very small, but still has the necessary utensils that are usually part of the equipment. If you have a larger group, it might be a good idea to get additional disposable tableware, as it is quite possible that the normal dishes have been used up and cannot be washed at the desired time because the dishwasher is in constant use and you often have to wait for it must. On the last day, ironically, some of us used cutting boards as replacement plates or small plates. When you review the kitchen situation, you might want to consider trying out the countless restaurants. Unfortunately, a lack of privacy from the surrounding houses and the adjacent campsite made some members of our group feel unwell. Despite these minor inconveniences, we had a lovely time and a relaxing holiday. I would give this a rating of 4.0 out of 5.0 simply based on the fact that there were a few minor things that left us a little disappointed for the price we paid. Nevertheless, we had nice accommodation and a good time.
Very nice holiday homes. Clean, great facilities, great location. The beds were very comfortable, we all slept well. The climate in the house is also very pleasant. Grocery stores, bakers, restaurants all within walking distance. We were very satisfied, there is nothing to complain about. Gladly again sometime :-)
In mid-May 2023, we and our family (4 people plus dog) were guests at “Haus Alpenblick 13” from Alps Resorts in Inzell. The house was superbly furnished, the view of the mountains was magnificent and the service (both from Ms Köstle and the caretaker Toni) was exemplary. That was pure relaxation! A swim in the in-house pool perfectly rounded off our well-being. All in all, we felt very well looked after and enjoyed our time in the idyllic town of Inzell. In short: This was definitely not our last holiday in the Inzell Chalets. .
Very good chalet and good service many thanks to Petra
